Well we did it! Now everyone has access to not only ECHO Link but IRLP as well! The new ECHOIRLP node went in service on Friday November 14th 2008. It is located at the Pharr tower and has full battery backup!

 

How to use ECHOIRLP

Rule #1 Wait a full second AFTER you key up, then talk or enter codes. This gives the system time to come on line so every one can hear you.

Rule #2 Always listen first, then ask if the system is in use.

Rule #3 Disconnect when you are done.

You must first decide what service you want to use, ECHOLINK or IRLP and get the node number. Then choose whether you want to connect directly (you to another node only) or to a reflector and have a round table QSO with other nodes.  Direct is easy, just listen to see if the system is in use, key up, ask if the system is in use, then type in the node number you want to connect with. 

Example: If you want to use IRLP to connect to Corpus Christi, key up and enter 5841 unkey. When you wish to disconnect, just key up and enter 73. 

If you want to use EchoLink to connect to Corpus Christi, key up and enter A313998 unkey. When you wish to disconnect, just key up and enter 73.

VOIP USE
With VOIP use the first thing we must all remember is to leave a gap between transmissions.  Having said that this is a good time to list the three main laws when connected to a VOIP station:

Pause                       2.Pause                    3.Pause

 

Due to the slight increase in delays created by multiple Tone Squelch radios and the internet and in the links between the repeater and VOIP radios, the pause is a slight change in our normal operating procedures and is required with any VOIP communication. 

If you hear someone calling from a far away place, just answer them as you would with a local station.  Remember to expect some delay in a conversation with a station on this system. To end a call just key up, ID and enter  “73”

Our hope is that the systems will keep all of us in contact for fun and to assist in an emergency.
